The problem

Expense trackers tell you after the money is gone.

By the time you log an expense, the rupee has already left your pocket. SmartABCD works at all three moments that actually decide your savings.

1 · Plan — before

Set budgets with alert levels and locks, build priority-sorted shopping lists, and mark every item as a need or a want — before you ever enter a store.

2 · Guard — during

Shopping Guard Mode runs a live budget meter as you drop items in your tray. Cross a threshold or grab an unplanned item — you're warned in real time, not next week.

3 · Learn — after

Planned-vs-actual reports, overspend patterns and a 0–100 Discipline Score show exactly where money leaks — and how to plug it next month.

Features

Everything you need to spend with intention

Every feature answers three questions: what it is, why you need it, and how it works.

Budget Planner

What it is

Category budgets — Grocery, Festival, School Items, Medical, Trip and more — with a planned amount, a hard maximum, dates and repeat frequency (weekly, monthly, yearly).

Why you need it

A number written down before the month starts is the single strongest defence against overspending. Vague intentions don't survive a supermarket aisle; a planned ₹4,000 grocery budget does.

How it works

  • Pick a category (13 built-in + your own custom ones) and set planned & maximum amounts.
  • Choose alert levels anywhere from 50% to 200% — SmartABCD notifies you as spending crosses each one.
  • Add a budget lock: soft warning, PIN check, reason required, family approval, or a hard stop that blocks spending past the maximum.
  • Set visibility: family, private, or selected members only.

Shopping List Planner

What it is

Item-wise shopping lists linked to a budget — each item carries a quantity, unit, estimated price, optional maximum price, brand, and preferred store.

Why you need it

Shoppers with a written list spend measurably less. When every item has a priority and a price, "just one more thing" has nowhere to hide.

How it works

  • Rank items by priority: must-buy → optional → wishlist → later → avoid.
  • Classify each as need, want, luxury, emergency, gift or family requirement — honesty at planning time pays at the till.
  • The list totals itself against the linked budget as you plan, and can repeat monthly for staples.
  • Assign items to family members so everyone knows what they're responsible for.
Flagship feature

Shopping Guard Mode

The moment you enter the store, SmartABCD switches from planner to bodyguard. A live budget meter watches every item that enters your tray — and speaks up before you cross the line.

What it is

A live shopping session started from any list. It tracks planned total, tray total, amount purchased, remaining budget and percentage used — updating with every single item.

Why you need it

Overspending doesn't happen at home — it happens in aisle 7, item by item. A meter in your hand at the moment of temptation beats any report you read later.

How it works

  • Start Guard on a list; a pre-shopping checklist confirms budget & priorities.
  • The meter moves through colour zones — green, yellow, orange, red — as you add items.
  • Alerts fire at your thresholds: 70% "careful", 90% "almost used", 100% "budget reached", 125% "overspending started", 150% strong warning, 200% critical.
  • End the session for an instant completion summary.

Impulse Purchase Guard

What it is

An instant warning whenever an item that was not on your planned list enters the tray.

Why you need it

Impulse buys are the silent budget killer — small, frequent, and invisible until month end. A two-second pause is often all it takes to skip them.

How it works

  • Unplanned item detected → SmartABCD asks: buy anyway, add to wishlist, schedule for later, ask family approval, or cancel.
  • If you buy, it captures the reason — price increase, offer, emergency, family request, brand change, or plain impulse.
  • Your reasons feed your reports and Discipline Score, so patterns become visible.

Barcode & QR Scan

What it is

Point your camera at a product's barcode or QR code to add it to your tray in one second.

Why you need it

Guard Mode only protects you if using it is faster than not using it. Scanning removes all typing from the store floor.

How it works

  • Scan → SmartABCD matches the product name from its catalogue and your history.
  • You confirm the actual shelf price (prices vary by store — the app never guesses).
  • Item lands in the tray, auto-matched to your planned list when possible.
  • Barcode not found? Manual entry is always one tap away.

Price Label & Receipt OCR

What it is

Photograph a shelf price label to capture an item's price, or scan the final bill — SmartABCD reads it, line by line.

Why you need it

The receipt is the ground truth. Scanning it catches the items that sneaked past your plan and verifies every price you were charged.

How it works

  • Snap the receipt at checkout; OCR extracts item names, quantities and prices.
  • Lines are auto-matched against your planned list and tray.
  • Unplanned items are flagged in red; misread lines can be corrected with a tap.
  • The reconciled result powers your planned-vs-actual report automatically.

Smart Shopping Tray

What it is

A digital twin of your physical trolley. Every item you pick up lives here with its planned price, actual price and the difference between them.

Why you need it

The trolley is where budgets are won or lost. Seeing "planned ₹410 → actual ₹425 (+₹15)" per item keeps totals honest while you can still put things back.

How it works

  • Items enter by scan, photo or manual tap; quantity changes recalculate instantly.
  • Each row shows need/want class, priority and an unplanned flag when relevant.
  • Move an item out — remove it or send it to the wishlist — and the meter falls back in real time.

Family Linking

What it is

One household, one plan. Create a family group, invite by mobile, email or code, and share budgets and lists with clear roles.

Why you need it

Most Indian budgets are family budgets. Discipline only works when the whole household sees the same numbers — with the right person in charge of each.

How it works

  • Roles: Admin (full control), Spouse (add/edit/approve/purchase), Member (add items, view), Child (wishlist requests only), View-only.
  • Sync modes per list: one-way (you publish, they follow), two-way (everyone edits), or approval (changes wait for a yes).
  • Children request items to their wishlist; parents approve, schedule or decline.

Wishlist & Future Purchases

What it is

A budget-aware parking lot for things you want but don't need today — with target dates, reminders and price estimates.

Why you need it

"Not now" works far better than "no". Deferring a want to a planned future date removes the sting of refusal while protecting this month's budget.

How it works

  • Add items directly, or divert impulse temptations here from Guard Mode.
  • Set a target purchase date and a reminder; link it to a budget so timing fits your money.
  • When the time comes, convert wishlist → shopping list item in one tap.

Planned vs Actual Reports

What it is

After every trip and every month: a clean item-by-item table of what you planned, what you actually paid, and the difference — plus category-wise budget health.

Why you need it

You can't fix what you can't see. Most people underestimate grocery drift by 15–25%; the report replaces guilt with numbers.

How it works

  • Every Guard session ends with a completion summary; receipts sharpen the data.
  • Monthly budget health: total budget, spend, remaining, overspend, category-wise breakdown.
  • Trends show whether this month beat the last one.

Financial Discipline Score

What it is

A single 0–100 number, graded A+ to E, that summarises how disciplined your spending was this month.

Why you need it

What gets scored gets improved. One number turns vague "we should spend less" into a game your whole family can win together.

How it works

  • Built from four signals: staying within budget, impulse purchases avoided, must-buy coverage, and your unplanned-spend ratio.
  • Grades: A+ (90+), A (80+), B (70+), C (60+), D (50+), E below.
  • A monthly trend line shows your discipline journey over time.

Savings Opportunity & Overspend Patterns

What it is

Smart insights that spot where money leaks: the category, the store, the day of the month, the reason.

Why you need it

Overspending is rarely random — it's a pattern. "Festival gifts blow the budget every October" is fixable once you can see it in September.

How it works

  • Analyses overspend reasons, impulse flags and price differences across months.
  • Highlights your top savings opportunities in plain language.
  • Suggests realistic budget adjustments instead of impossible ones.

Private Budgets

What it is

Budgets and lists only you can see — invisible to every other family member, including the admin.

Why you need it

Surprise birthday gifts shouldn't appear in the shared grocery report. Shared discipline and personal privacy can coexist.

How it works

  • Set any budget's visibility to private (or share with selected members only).
  • Private spending never appears in family reports or totals visible to others.
  • Flip it back to family visibility any time — after the surprise.

Offline Manual Entry — Always

What it is

Every core Guard action — adding items, changing quantities, watching the meter — works with zero network, and syncs when you're back online.

Why you need it

India-first means basement supermarkets, patchy 4G and small-town kirana stores. Your financial discipline should never depend on signal bars.

How it works

  • Lists and budgets are stored on your phone before you leave home.
  • Manual entry is a first-class citizen, not a fallback — fast keypad, recent items, smart suggestions.
  • Everything reconciles automatically once you reconnect.
How it works

Five steps from plan to peace of mind

1

Create a budget

Pick a category, set planned & maximum amounts, choose your alert levels and an optional lock.

2

Build your list

Add items with quantity, estimated price and priority. Mark each as need or want. Share with family if you like.

3

Start Shopping Guard

At the store, start a Guard session. A quick checklist confirms your budget — then the live meter takes over.

4

Scan, add, get warned

Scan barcodes, snap price labels or type items in. Unplanned items and threshold crossings trigger instant warnings.

FAQ

Quick answers

Expense trackers record spending after it happens. SmartABCD works before (budgets, lists, wishlist), during (live Shopping Guard meter and impulse warnings in the store) and after (reports and a Discipline Score). It's prevention, not just paperwork.

Yes — the Free plan is free forever: single user, limited budgets and lists, Shopping Guard with manual entry, and a basic report. Paid plans start at ₹99/month for families.

You get a clear "budget reached" alert. What happens next depends on your budget lock: a soft lock just warns you, a PIN lock asks for your PIN, a reason lock asks why, an approval lock pings your family admin, and a hard lock blocks additions beyond your maximum.

No. Budgets marked private are invisible to every other member — including the family admin. Surprise gifts stay surprises.

Yes. Manual entry, the tray and the live meter all work with no signal. Everything syncs when you're back online.

No. SmartABCD never asks for bank credentials, card numbers or UPI PINs. It only stores the planning data you enter — budgets, lists, prices and the receipts you choose to scan.
